NICE's Bike & Ride service offers more transit alternatives for our riders. All n6Xpress Articulated buses, serving Jamaica-Hempstead Transit Center along Hempstead Turnpike, will feature a bike rack on the front bumper that accomodates two bikes. Additionally, you can load your bike on these Artic buses and head to Jones Beach from Hempstead Transit Center and Freeport Saturdays and Sundays this summer.
PLEASE NOTE, CURRENTLY ONLY ARTICULATED BUSES ARE OUTFITTED WITH BIKE RACKS. View our n6X articulated schedule here. Weekday trips with bike racks are noted

How to Load and Unload your bike (NOTE: NICE drivers CANNOT handle your bike....passengers are responsible for racking and unracking)
Using our bike racks is a simple process. Our bike racks can accomidate bicycles with 16" wheels or larger with a maximum tire width up to 3". No child or motorized bikes are allowed. Please remove all loose items from your bike before loading such as water bottles, locks, pumps or child seats that could fall off while the bus is motion..
TO LOAD:
1) Inform the Bus Operator:
Please wait on the sidewalk at the bus stop and hail your operator as he pulls into the stop. REMEMBER, YOUR BUS
OPERATOR CANNOT LEAVE THE BUS AND HELP YOU RACK YOUR BIKE.
2) Lower the Rack:
With one hand, squeeze/lift the handle located in the center of the rack to release the latch and carefully lower the
rack.
3) Load Your Bike:
Identify the wheel slot labeled "front." Carefully place the bike in the wheel slots, making sure the front wheel is
positioned in the front wheel slot and that both tires fit snuggly in the wheel slots. Please use the wheel slot closest
to the bus, if it is free, so that loading a second bike on to the rack is possible.
4) Secure your Bike:
Swing the support arm up and over your bike's front tire to secure the bike to the rack. Make sure the support arm
fits suggly over the front tire. Do not lock your bike to the bike rack frame.
5) Board the Bus:
Try and choose a seat near the front of the bus to keep and eye on your bike. Remember to remind your bus operator
that you need to unrack your bike as you deboard the bus.
TO UNLOAD:
1). Inform Your Operator:
Remind your Operator as you leave the bus, that you need to unrack your bike.
2). Raise the support arm off the tire.
Lift/swing the support arm off of the tire and back under the rack, the arm's spring action will snap it back into place.
3). Remove Your Bike:
Check your surroundings to make sure you have space to safely remove your bike. Lift the bike up and out of the rack.
4). Raise the Rack:
IF THERE IS NO OTHER BIKE ON THE RACK, REMEMBER TO RAISE THE RACK BACK TO ITS UPRIGHT POSITION.
To raise the rack, simply squeeze the handle and return the rack to its upright position against the bus. The rack will
click into place and lock. Please make sure that the rack is locked and secure before stepping away from the bus.
5). Step Away From the Bus With Your Bike
Once you and have removed your bike (and if empty, the rack has been raised and locked in place) walk your bike
towards the curb, so that the bus may depart safely.
