Transdev and Nassau County
In December 2011, the Nassau County Legislature approved a "public-private operating partnership" agreement with Transdev, a leader in transit operations and management services. This arrangement enables Nassau County to maintain policy control over all areas, as well as continued ownership of all assets, vehicles and facilities. While Nassau County maintains policy control, Transdev manages all aspects of transit agency operations and functions as of January 1, 2012. As part of this arrangement, the workforce will be Transdev employees.
The Public-Private Operating Partnership that Nassau County and Transdev have employed is used in many parts of Europe and Asia because it builds upon the respective strengths of both the public and private sectors. Policy-making authority, ultimate control and ownership of all assets and facilities resides with the public sector entity, while the transit agency or city/county government can benefit from the systems, processes, programs and efficiencies of the private sector.
